Movies take up so…much… space

Lately, we have exclusively been buying the digital version of movies (thanks to many nights of last minute plans during quarantine). But, throughout the years, we acquired several shelves of dvds and blu-rays. All I want to do lately is cut down on clutter. So, I decided to tackle the movie collection. To give perspective, our movie collection was almost two 5 year olds tall.

I knew that I wanted sleeves that held two dvds (many of the kids movies came with a DVD and a Blu-ray). These were perfect (100 Clear CPP Movie Plastic Sleeves + 2 Disc Non-Woven Sleeves by StarTechDeals) Putting the movie is the sleeves was really quick and easy. I even put both my kiddos to work (love free labor while bonding).

Then, I cut the covers off the dvds (this was the more time consuming part) and slide them into the sleeves.

When it was all done, it was amazing how much space we saved. I had the kids help with alphabetizing (look at that summer homeschool lesson). And, put them in these storage bins. There are so many cute options (like these Atlantic Media Sleeve Storage Bin – Leatherette Front, Quality Stitching and includes 36 Sleeves for CDs, DVDs and Video Games ). However, I am currently having an obsession with Navy Blue. Obsessed. I don’t use the lids, but I love the cute little handles. I decided to go with these (Bigso Silvia Canvas Fiberboard Organizational Storage Box, 5.9 x 6.5 x 11.6 in, Grey) Bigso boxes. I love the little pull handle and the other matching boxes, which I use in the same cabinet for storing batteries and remote controls, etc.

We went from two 5 year olds of clutter to two small boxes (less than 1/2 a 5 year old)!! I did a kid box (Aladdin) and a grownup box (8 mile….oh Em). How do you organize your movies?
